Poor Hands Welfare Trust promotes rural community development by providing sustainable water sources and reducing health risks associated with contaminated water. Since 2019, we installed over 100 water wells reaching over 20,000 people, especially in sandy and un-reached scorching sun deserts of Sindh, Balochistan & Southern Punjab. We have identified 25 more villages that desperately need clean water resources which motivates us to step forward. With the help of our generous donors, we will bring precious, life-saving water to these deserving people in need.

Of all the provinces, Balochistan is the worst hit. Only half a century ago, this mineral rich province had flowing streams, karez and underground wells which were deemed adequate. Today, lack of rain and over exploitation has dried up the streams and karez. In Balochistan, annual precipitation ranges from 50 to 500mm, as much of it lies outside the monsoon zone. Women have to walk miles each day to fetch a single container of water to meet their families’ needs.
The water is obtained from ponds and sometimes becomes extremely brackish, causing many water-borne diseases. According to reports, 62 percent of Balochistan is deprived of safe drinking water and more than 58 percent of it’s land is uncultivable due to water scarcity.

Most districts in Lower Sindh are in the midst of a drought, including Thatta, Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan and Sujawal. These areas receive water from the Kotri Barrage, there is a 69% drop in its average capacity.
According to water agreements between the provinces, 15,700 cusecs should flow at Kotri Barrage, however this is not the case. Similarly, the water level at Guddu Barrage has dropped by 92%, while at Sukkur Barrage, the loss is at 47%.
Farmers in Lower Sindh plead that that the situation is dire, with drought-like conditions killing off their cattle and crop.

Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur districts in south Punjab are facing acute water shortage as people from rain-fed and mountainous areas are moving along with their cattle towards urban centres in search of water to quench their and their animals’ thirst.
A Punjab irrigation official says water shortage in the region has increased to 82 per cent as the canal system there has been closed since February 22.
“The situation is precarious as water is available neither in the reservoirs nor in rivers. By this time the dams would have been half filled as per routine in the previous years, but both Tarbela and Mangla lakes are presently close to their dead levels,” he says.

Memorials are the easiest way to send the Reward of the Sadqah-e-Jariah to those who did good deeds to mankind while having lives in their couch. It could be beside any grave or a water at the name of some one who did this. Memorials are also the places where poor can have free medication, food, fresh water and more. The famous examples of the memorials in our country are Shouqat kanam, Data Darbar and many other foundations.
